Young Awardees Trekked “Sunderdanga Valley” near Pindari Glaciers in Uttarakhand State: Salaam Award, under the special project of prestigious “Duke of Edinburgh’s” International Award Programme for Young people in India, 44 awardees and 7 staff with one Gold awardees went for trekking. The main team with 18 Awardees and 4 staff (including three girls and a female staff) had gone to Sunderdanga valley in Kumaon region. This team was led by Mr.Bivujit Mukhoty- Field officer of Special projects, and was continued for five days from 18-22 June 2007.
From Sat-taal, the team reached Swang through Bageswar. From there they trekked to Upper Lowerkheat (6140 ft) 4 k.m. in the evening and established their Camp in the Forest Bungalow. And next day expeditors scaled the highest pick of the venture, Dhakuri Top height-12,500 feet. Trekkers scaled this pick on 19th June and moved towards Jatoli village with 8,500 feet. There was no human habitat beyond this point. But the Gold awardees with their leaders went up to Sunderdanga Valley which is 5 K.M from Jatoli village. Trekkers enjoyed the scenic view of Nanda Devi Sanctuary on their way. |
