INFORMATION FOR PROSPECTIVE VOLUNTEERS
The Salaam Baalak Trust welcomes people to volunteer with us in a range of activities like teaching English, training tour guides with communicative skill, marketing the salaam city walk, documentation, teaching other subjects, non-formal education, general knowledge, computers and theatre activities. Professionals can also participate and bolster our mental health program.
However, we seek volunteers who can spend at-least two weeks time with the trust. Those interested are requested to go through our website thoroughly and tell us about the activities they would like to participate in. Also, we would like you to send us your personal and professional details. It is important that we finalize the volunteer agreement at least a week before the placement.
You are requested to arrange your accommodation and travel to the project site. We, unfortunately, won't be able to provide for any support in this regard. For backpackers there are plenty of cheap hotels available at Paharganj where most of our projects are operational.
We, at the shelter, have a structured induction program for a volunteer which starts firstly with the city walk where a person can join us for a two hour walk conducted by guides who happen to be the very children who had, before joining the trust, lived on the streets. For details of the walk visit the link www.salaambaalaktrust.com/city-walk.asp . After the walk the volunteer would have to visit the rest of the facilities and speak to the volunteer coordinator for a briefing. After this briefing, the volunteer would have to fill the agreement papers and take the task-sheet to report to the Project Coordinator/Supervisor. On a daily basis, the volunteer from here on, would be supervised by the Project Coordinator and in case of any support required can contact the Volunteer Coordinator.
The Trust runs chiefly on project funding and donations. We don't charge any thing from the volunteers but volunteer can donate whatever they can in cash and kind for which the volunteers are requested to claim proper receipt. |
